State Obesity: 2010

We all know there is a problem with obesity in America, but which states are the worst? This article gives us a look into which states have increased and how much. Washington D.C. is one of the only districts that actually went down from 2009 to 2010, most likely because of the presidential push for healthy living. The list of states from highest to lowest goes as follows:

This is the 6th year in a row now that Mississippi has topped the chart at 33.8%. However it is a problem in every state that needs to be worked on as a community and as a country.

  1. This is a cool post and shows all the states percentage of obesity. I am surprised that there aren't many more states that have a decreasing number of obesity. This shows that everyone is not watching what they eat or how much they eat at a time. Seems like many people don't care what they look like. It's good how MA is number 48!

  2. I think it's interesting that the top 10 states with the highest obesity rates are in the Southern part of the United States. What does this say about the lifestyles and diets of Southern culture? I know that the South is known for big portions of fried and fatty foods, so this could contribute to the consistent rates of obesity. Although the entire United States faces the obesity problem, I think more work and promotions on healthy living, exercise, and diet should target Southern states.

  3. I thought this post was great, breaking down all states and showing the best and the worst. i think this is a great way to show how big of a problem this really is. The american children population is 16% - 33% overweight. Over 25million children are overweight or obese. This should be enough for people to get up and start making moves to improve the situation.
