The Facts

Child obesity is a rising problem in the United States today. Doctors, nutritionists, and Pediatricians have all done the research, and these are the facts: 15% of kids between the ages of 6 and 11 are considered overweight. Over 25% of minority children are greatly overweight. Not only do we have obesity in children, but now we have super-obesity in children. This number has increased 100% in the past two decades. This problem can cause health problems such as: high cholesterol, which many of these kids already have. Elevated blood lipids, high blood pressure, and worst of all a 40% of kids diagnosed with diabetes have type 2, the one most commonly associated with obesity.

  1. Great Blog..and a very big issue in the US today. I feel like it has a lot to do with the parents and what they feed their children. Also, i am doing a presentation in my nutrition class about child obesity and the lunch programs in there Elementary Schools. I think they should have healthy meals at breakfast and lunch and that will improve A LOT in a childs diet. That is 2 meals out of the day which they would be getting a lot healthier then if they had a bad 2 meals. Great blog..but big problem.
